Reflective Paint

Reflective paint is a specialty coating formulated to return direct light toward the viewer so painted surfaces become more visible at night. Unlike glow-in-the-dark paint, it does not store light and continue glowing after the light source is removed.

Reflective paint compatibility

Reflective spray coatings can work on several properly prepared materials, including metal, wood, plastic, concrete, and masonry. The reflective effect is strongest when direct light reaches the coating, and several light coats are preferable to one heavy wet coat.

Metal Excellent with a reflective coating approved for metal Remove rust or loose coating, clean, degrease, dry, and prepare glossy areas as directed. Use a compatible metal primer when required by the coating or condition of the surface. Apply multiple light coats and keep the finished surface where direct light can reach it.
Wood Good with a reflective coating approved for wood Use clean, dry wood; sand rough or glossy areas and remove dust, grease, wax, or loose finish. Prime bare or porous wood when the selected coating system requires it. Build the reflective effect with light coats rather than one heavy application.
Plastic Good only when the reflective product approves the specific plastic Clean and dry thoroughly, remove grease or mold-release residue, and test compatibility when the plastic type is uncertain. Use a plastic-compatible primer only when required by the selected system. Several light coats help build reflectivity without excessive wet film.
Concrete Good on sound, properly prepared concrete Make sure the concrete is cured, dry, clean, sound, and free of loose material or moisture problems. Use a compatible masonry primer or sealer when required by the reflective coating. Use for visibility and decorative accents rather than assuming traffic-rated floor performance.
Brick Good with a reflective coating approved for masonry Remove dirt, loose material, and efflorescence; make sure the brick is sound and dry. Use a compatible masonry primer when required by porosity or the selected coating. Reflectivity depends on direct illumination and sufficient light coat buildup.
Cinder Block Good with a reflective coating approved for masonry Remove dust, deposits, loose material, and moisture problems; let the block dry completely. Use a masonry primer or block filler when required by the selected coating system. Several light coats can improve the reflective effect on the rough porous surface.
