MDF
MDF is an engineered wood panel made from compressed fibers and resin, with smooth faces and absorbent cut edges that need preparation before painting.
Paint compatibility with MDF
MDF accepts many furniture and magnetic coatings, but its faces and cut edges absorb paint differently, so seal and sand them for an even finish.

Martand Khosla
Khosla’s Coda XXXVIII uses burnt paint on MDF; his Blueprints for the Past series layers intumescent paint on MDF and teak before laser etching. The support is part of the work’s investigation of building materials.
